How I Build A HUGE, Targeted List...

Matt Lake here.

I just submitted a post to the warrior forum, and it had a pretty amazing response.

I basically talked about the main method I use to build a list of targeted subscribers.

Here it is...

Now I'm going to outline the main method I use to build a HIGHLY TARGETED list of prospects, every day.

I've noticed many people on here either don't know how to go about building a list, or don't think they need to.

RULE #1: You MUST build a list.

If you take a look at anyone who is successful online...they have a list. You get bombarded with emails everyday right?...Because your on a list.

So just to clear it up...you really should work on building a list.

Now I know there's a lot of you saying 'that's obvious', but I'm surprised at how many people just ignore building a list.

Also, the quality of subscriber is so important too.

I personally think Give-aways are a waste of time...sure you can build a list very quickly, but in general, these are not paying customers. They're only at the give-away in the first place to get something free.

So here are my steps to building a targeted list of paying customers...

Step #1: Google Adwords.

Probably 70% of my list subscribers, in various niches are gathered from PPC advertising.

A lot of people get nervous about paying for customers. But here's how I look at it, if you look after your subscribers and treat them well, they will buy from you some time in the future.

So it really doesn't bother me if it costs $1 for a subscriber to my list.

And $1 per subscriber is a pretty average amount I spend.

Let's say I'm paying 20 cents per click, and I have about a 20% conversion rate on my squeeze page, (It's often higher).

So for every 5 people that click on my ad and visit my squeeze page, 1 will opt in...so it cost me 5 x 20 cents to get that subscriber.

=$1 per subscriber.

And I know that I will make more than $1 back from that person.

I'll focus a bit more on my Google ad in a minute but first...

Step #2: Find an affiliate product

Go to clickbank or wherever and find a product you want to promote, and that is converting well.

Ideally, the home page of the product's website should not be a squeeze page.

I then go ahead and create my own squeeze page for this product...

On a blank web page (on my server) I simply insert the title from the products sales page that I am promoting. And also copy and paste the bullet points from the sales page.

I'll put something like:

Inside you'll discover...

And then list the bullet points.

Basically I'm creating a squeeze page for this website, with very little effort on my part.

I will then place an optin box at the bottom of this page, and say,

Simply fill out the form below to gain instant accesses to the site...

Surely you've seen this layout on other people's squeeze page?

Now when someone submits their name and email address, simply redirect them to the affiliated product.

This way you've built a list of people and you know exactly the sort of thing that they're interested in.

Now this person might go on to buy the affiliate product and you'll make an instant commission.

But if they don't?

Who cares? Like I said, you know exactly what they're interested in and if you treat them right, you'll make a lot more than you lousy $1 back.

Step #3: Setting up your ad.

Now you go ahead and create your ad. Make it enticing to a reader by asking a question or something like that.

When someone clicks on your ad, send them to your squeeze page.

Now it's important not to pay too much for your clicks on your Google Adwords campaign. Depending on how competitive your niche is, this will be easier for some.

Like I said, I often pay about $0.20 per click. And that's high for me.

Here's my strategy...

1. Don't try and get to the top of the ad list on the search results. Instead I try and position my ads so that they appear just above the fold of the screen.

2. bid on long tail key words. For example, if I'm promoting a weight loss product, I wouldn't bid on the term weight-loss. It's not really that targeted and it's VERY competitive. Instead I use the exact name of the affiliate product I am promoting. And the exact name of similar weight loss products. I would make my key words as specific as possible.

Also, place words such as 'buy' in front of the keyword because this is more specific to those people that are actually looking to buy the product.

the less you pay for clicks, obviously the better.

So there you have it. That's how I mainly build my lists. Basically pay for cheap clicks and get them to opt in to your list.

A 20% conversion rate on a squeeze page is very reasonable. I've even had conversion rates as high as 80%!

Than all you have to do is look after these subscribers the right way. If you're a member of my newsletter you'll no that I offer more content than I do promotions. And when I do promote something, it is only ever something of great quality that I know will benefit my subscribers.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to tell you that, it's just I really am surprised at how many people send crap to my inbox day in day out, without giving me a reason to listen to them.

My advice is to start using Google adwords to build your list, if you're not already.

There's no other method where you can get such targeted prospects and see results so quickly.

And like I said, treat your subscribers well and you'll make a lot more than what it cost to get them.

AND, if you're selling your OWN product, be sure to make the home page a squeeze page.

A good sales page will covert at 1%, whereas a typical squeeze page will convert at 20%.

And I'm sure you've heard it before, that it takes a potential customer on average, 7 times to visit your site before they buy your product. The only way you can follow up on them is to capture their email address.
